What’s a twentysomethings favorite meal? If we’re talking real meals and not wine and cheese (or whine and cheese as I like to call it) then I’m sure everyone will say brunch. What’s not to love about brunch? You can eat enough food for breakfast and lunch and pretend you only had one meal. I’m not going to tell you where to eat (Berg, Crema, Alden & Harlow...) because the options are endless, but I can help you decide what to wear to brunch, because there’s nothing more important than a good brunch pic.
Let’s start from the top down, because if you can’t perfect the coveted above shot of your meal then a pic of you smiling across the table will have to do. When getting dressed, I like to start simple and then build from my basics. You can’t go wrong with a simple white shirt, a tank top with an interesting detail, think different textures and patterns. I’m not a big fan of jeans, I usually go for skirts or fitted joggers or linen pants. Skirts are an easy way to make a simple outfit more interesting. There are so many different types of skirts to complement your outfit and flatter your body, mini, a-line, midi, maxi, circle. Whichever one you choose, think about the length and style of your shirt. If your shirt is cropped maybe go with a high waisted skirt. Once again, keep your skirt choice relatively simple, I’m a fan of black skirts with an interesting texture or subtle pattern. To round out your outfit, choose a cardigan, preferably one that is completely impractical but adds a new dimension to your outfit.
Now that you have your foundation, it’s time to bring on the details. This is what makes an outfit. Think fun ankle socks to peep out of your shoes. Maybe a long necklace that pops in front of your simple shirt. If you go with a gold necklace, keep your earrings gold too and if you go for silver, stay silver, outfits look more put together when you keep the jewelry consistent. Dressing for brunch doesn’t have to be boring, stay simple, focus on the details and you’ll be ready to go. You don’t want the food to completely outshine you in the photo so, put on some lipstick, grab your sunglasses and don’t be late to your rez!
